The Farm

Sitting between the villages of Tenterden, Smarden and Pluckley, Brick Farm House is perfectly placed as a base from which to explore Kent. Tenterden is a 5 minute drive away and there are numerous small villages with a 20 minute drive. Ashford with its high speed link to France is just 15 minutes away and you can be in Paris in under 2 hours. The city of Canterbury is 30 mins by car and you can be in London via Headcorn station in 1hr 45 mins or in 40 mins from Ashford on the new high speed link.

The farmhouse has the date 1799 chiselled into a stone over the front door. However, we believe that the farm holding predates this by many years. The big barn has the date 1756 carved into the woodwork but the exact date of the farm remains unclear. Previous owners have used the farm for grain and dairy but we now use it as a smallholding providing a mixture of meat and vegetables.

During the war the famous Battle of Britain was fought in the skies over the farm. There are many recorded crash sites in the area of both German and allied aircraft.RAF High Halden was a temporary airfield positioned just half a mile from the farm and was used by the US Air Force. The farmhouse was damaged during the war when the wing of a crashing Messerschmitt clipped the corner of the house. The scars of this can still be seen today. The airfield was dismantled soon after the war and the planes seen today over the farm are from Headcorn aerodrome used for recreation flying and parachute jumps. Spitfires and other wartime aircraft are still seen though, as the area hosts small flying shows and some local enthusiasts own Hurricanes and Spitfires.
